8 February 2022: How Plants & Soil Feed Each Other

8 February 2022

HOW PLANTS AND SOIL FEED EACH OTHER by Matt Heffernan

The science of soil is having a renaissance. Our knowledge of the complexities of plant and soil relationships are still being discovered and understood.

Thousands of chemical compounds are made by plants that feed the soil microbes. The soil biology in turn makes thousands of chemicals for plants. The role of bacteria, fungi and archaea in the rhizosphere (topsoil) and their importance to human gut health is like a new frontier with so much still not known.

Join Matt Heffernan as he tries to simplify these relationships and how to encourage it in your home garden and how important it is for humanity on many levels.

It was hoped that this first presentation for the year would be held in the Oatley Community Hall.  Unfortunately due to the unpredictability of the recent Covid-19 outbreak, we have decided to commence the year with a zoom presentation.  The link for this presentation will be sent out prior to the meeting to all financial members.
