13 Feb 2015: ‘Biochar: the new black gold’
13 February 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Are you at a loss about how to dispose of woody garden waste sustainably? Turn the problem into a solution: make biochar. Biochar has many amazing benefits for soil health, plant production and not least climate change mitigation! It is the new black gold. This talk will cover the properties and benefits of biochar, how to make it yourself, and how to use it as a soil amendment. One lucky person will be able to take home a backyard biochar maker.
Dr Johan Swinnen is a life-long organic gardener with a degree in agronomy and a PhD in soil carbon dynamics. He is about to start aid work in Cambodia related to sustainable agriculture and permaculture. (More information on Biochar can be found on Johan’s on-line album http://tinyurl.com/pew6nbb) This talk will be hosted by St George/Sutherland Group on Friday evening 7.00 pm 13 Feb 2015. For members this will be a gold coin donation and for visitors $10. All are welcome. Please let Nat know by emailing her at permaculturestgeorge@gmail.com if you will be attending.
